The Plot:
Malencia (Cia) Vale is thrilled to find out that she has been chosen for The Testing, the rigorous process that candidates endure to qualify for the one remaining University. She has longed to follow in her father’s footsteps, leave her small, quiet Five Lakes Colony to go out and see Tosu City and the wider world that a University education can bring. But as she leaves, her father warns her to be extremely cautious, that The Testing and the people who run it are not always as they seem. When the extreme and potentially dangerous Testing process begins, Cia begins to see that the stakes are much higher than she thought – and that maybe her father was trying to protect her from hidden evil.
Why It's Worth Reading:
If you loved The Hunger Games or Divergent, you will love The Testing! It's super suspenseful - you'll be up all night because you just have to read a tiny bit more. Cia is an honest and honorable character and the people that she meets in Tosu City vary from innocent friend to calculating villian to crush turned testing partner. This book will make you think about where we would be without all of the material things and services that we take for granted. Between the action of the various Testing stages, the budding romance between Cia and Tomas, and the compelling plot twists, I highly recommend this book!
