Travis Coates has terminal cancer throughout his body. He's watching his illness slowly tear apart his entire family. When he decides to cryogenically preserve his head, he assumes that he will never come back or that his potential reanimation will happen so far in the future that the world will be a new place to him. So when he is brought back only five years after his death, he's not sure how to handle things. His parents, friends and girlfriend are all five years older and have moved on with their lives, but he awakens feeling as though he just left them. Plus he's an international media sensation and he's got an entirely new body to figure out. Whoa.
Why It's Worth Reading:
It's the best book I've read in a while! (Finally! The slump is over.) The premise seems very science fiction heavy, but this is really a book about relationships, romantic or otherwise, and how they evolve. I absolutely related to Travis' frustration feeling stuck in time and left behind, but I completely understood how his parents and friends might have felt as well. This is a novel will a couple of big questions at its heart, but it is easy to read and full of humor too. (Seriously. A book about a kid freezing his head called Noggin? It's frequently hilarious.) Fans of The Fault in our Stars will probably love this, but I think there's something in this book for everyone.
