Autumn and Adonis are total opposites. Autumn is a star female wrestler and an amazing cook, but she struggles as a student. She has always hated
academics, and only tries to keep up with her classes so that she can keep wrestling. Adonis has always been
a straight A student. He tutors other students and pushes them to achieve their academic potential.
But he sees himself as different from most people because he has been in a wheelchair since he was a child. Autumn is in love with Adonis. She flirts with him shamelessly and is never discouraged by his
rebuffs. Adonis finds Autumn annoying. He cannot understand how she can be so motivated and driven when it comes to wrestling, but will not push herself in school.
Why It's Worth Reading:
The two main characters, who take turns narrating chapters, are highly relatable. I sympathized with Autumn's frustration with school and with Adonis constantly shooting down her attempts to date him. She has a serious case of unrequited love! I also really related Adonis' drive to achieve. He pushes himself to the point of absolute stubbornness, which I think most people will do when it comes to their personal passions. The characters are complex - Autumn is more than just a female wrestler and Adonis is more than just a disabled student. They have depth and complicated emotions. They reminded me of people I know.
