When local DJ on the verge of stardom, Paris Secord (aka DJ Parsec), is killed, no one is more crushed than her former best friend, Kya, and her superfan, Fatima “Fuse” Fallon. Unfortunately, Kya and Fuse have never liked each other, so mourning the loss together is out of the question. When the police trail turns cold, and Paris’ obsessed fan-base, Parsec Nation, starts demanding justice, Kya and Fuse feel forced to step in. As the two people closest to Paris, and the ones who found her body, they have as good a chance as anyone to hunt down Parsec’s killer. But they will have to work closely to solve the crime, and they each have secrets about their relationships with Paris that threaten their credibility.
Why It's Worth Reading:
Fast-paced mystery, tons of music references, characters of color with lots of depth - need I say more? I really dug this book. I love the passion that Fuse and Paris express about music and the way that it moves them. It spoke to my music-loving heart. I could really relate to both Fuse and Kya and the way that their friendships with Paris had changed over time. Some mysteries can be predictable from the start, but this one had a couple of good red herrings before the real killer was revealed. If you've been craving a good mystery to curl up with during these cold winter months, look no further. And pick up the rest of Lamar Giles' books too. They're all fantastic!
